Planning / Swiss Cross Quilt Inspired by Pia Wallen

Above: Story North & MjÖlk
I've had a serious thing for this gorgeous wool Pia Wallen Cross Blanket for some time.  It's a modern take on a classic Swiss army blanket and has been trending for awhile in various forms from pillows to baby blankets.

For my next large scale project (and really my largest to date) I would like to tackle making a quilted version of the updated classic for our bed.  I couldn't find a pattern I liked, so I had Jared set up a google spreadsheet for me to represent a 2" grid and ended up with this.

I would like to use the solid black jelly roll I picked up in yesterday's daily deal (though I might need to grab another one.. I'm still running the numbers).  It's a whole lot of tiny squares, but as long as I break it down into blocks I think I can do it.  I'm not sure about the back.  In a perfect world I would love to do the reverse (white with black crosses) but I have a tendency to get in over my head with projects like this.  I would probably add a 2" border in black to this as well to give it a little room to breath before the binding.  The full top pictured above is a whopping 80" x 80".  *palm to forehead*

I HAVE to finish our wedding quilt before I start any new projects.  So this will be getting in line after the wedding quilt and my triangle quilt.  I'm still mulling over a lot of options for this, so it will give me some time to finalize numbers and practice some blocks.  Stick around for updates and progress photos.
