Quilt Status / 05.16.13

How about a status update on some of my current projects?  It's been awhile since I caught you up.  As usual, I'm in the middle of a bunch of things that are in different stages on completion.  They are all so different in style, but I love them all.

- Jitterbug Betty Quilt -

I finished the quilt top for my Jitterbug Betty Quilt.  It's not perfect, but it's adorable.  I'm debating on how to finish it.  I'm not sure which fabric to use for the back.  I'm going to go through my scraps and see if I can figure out something fun for the back.  As far as the quilting goes, I would love to do something fun and organic.  But I have no experience with Free Motion Quilting.  I might sit on this top until I can get some practice in.  I think that would be the best option.  Thoughts?

- Half Square Triangle Birthday Quilt in Black, Gray & Cream -

A friend of mine is always cold in the office.  She uses this nasty, tattered old blanket over her lap.  So for her birthday, I decided to make her a simple quilt to replace it.  She's not one fore color or busy pattern and I wanted to make sure it wouldn't show too much dirt since it will get heavy use.  We settled on a monochromatic black and gray scheme.  To give it a little character, I added a subtle tree pattern from the Botanics line by Carolyn Friedlander.  I'm hoping to have the top done this weekend.  I just need to pick a backing fabric.  I'm going to make this a binding-less quilt to keep things simple and meet the deadline for her birthday.

- Mystery Quilt with Heather Spence & Missouri Star Quilt Company -

Lastly, I am doing my first mystery quilt!  I saw a post about the new mystery quilt on Missouri Star Quilt Company and felt really connect to their charitable cause.  This time it's open to anyone, but they are recommending a $15 donation to Cancer Cares if you can afford it.  My grandmother fought and beat Lymphoma not too long ago and to celebrate her remission I selected a range of greens (the color of the Lymphoma awareness ribbon) for this mystery quilt.  The first clue was released today and it's already looking adorable!  I'm so excited to participate in this quilt-along, especially for such a good cause and with such an active group of quilters!
