Elevation Quilt - Mystery Quilt Spring 2014

Elevcation Quilt on Ever So Splendid
I'm back!  And as a special treat I have a finished quilt to share with you!   As you may remember, I took part in the Spring 2014 Mystery Quilt with Heather Spence and Missouri Star Quilt Company which benefited Cancer Care.  It was my very first mystery quilt or quilt-along and I loved quilting with such an active and diverse community.  They will be doing this again in the fall and I will be sure to let you all know when sign-ups begin so you can join in too.  You won't be sorry!

Back to the quilt at hand, the fabrics were inspired by my grandma's fight with lymphoma cancer, which she won a year ago this spring.  The awareness ribbon for lymphoma is chartreuse green.  My mom helped me select the True Colors line by Heather Bailey.  They were lovely to quilt with and I would highly recommend them.

Even though I didn't nail the gradiation of the values like I was supposed to, it was kind of a happy accident that I have that ribbon of chartreuse moving diagonally across the middle of the quilt.  I ordered extra of the "lightest" pattern for the back and had plenty of the "darkest" left for a thin binding.  I kept the quilting simple.  I wanted the finished quilt to be supper soft and cuddly, so I avoided a heavy all-over pattern and stuck to stitching 1/4" off of my vertical lines.  This was the thinnest binding I have ever attempted.  The corners were tough, but I think it looks great.

I got the quilt top pattern in steps, but overall I think this top could come together in a couple of weekends for a somewhat experienced quilter.  The pattern is now available in Heather's Etsy Shop

My grandma LOVED the quilt.  I carried it in my suitcase all the way to Oregon so I could give it to her in person.  Now anytime she needs a hug from me, I know she can wrap up in this quilt on the sofa.  Isn't that the best feeling?

If you have any questions about this quilt (or anything else) feel free to leave a comment and I will answer as best as I can.  Happy to be back!  More soon!
